Tour details

On the first day, you’ll arrive in Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the Amazon Lodge, where you’ll settle into your bungalow after enjoying fresh seasonal snacks. The first adventure takes you to Monkey Island, home to friendly Capuchin monkeys and other species, offering a unique opportunity to interact with them. In the evening, you’ll embark on a caiman-spotting excursion along the riverbanks. Day two includes a visit to the stunning Sandoval Lake in the Tambopata Reserve, a hike through lush rainforest, and a nighttime walk to discover nocturnal wildlife. On the third day, you’ll connect with the culture of a native community, learning about their traditions and crafts, followed by rustic fishing in the Amazon. On the final day, you’ll visit the Parrot Clay Lick at dawn to witness the vibrant activity of parrots and other birds before returning to Puerto Maldonado to conclude your journey.

Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVAL, AMAZON LODGE, MONKEY ISLAND.

Reception at the airport then transfer to our office located in the center of the city of Puerto Maldonado. Any luggage that you do not need during your stay in the jungle can be safely stored in our storage room. This will facilitate transportation by boat to the lodge. Upon arrival at the Lodge you will be greeted with snacks made with seasonal fruits. Then, your guide will provide you with the necessary information for your stay and give you the keys to your bungalow, followed by lunch and time to rest before the first excursion.

MONKEY ISLAND

Monkey Island is located 15 minutes from the Lodge Rio abajo, on this island we can find a group of Capuchin monkeys, Black Monkey (Cebus apella), White Monkey (Cebus albifrons), which are accustomed to humans and that is why it is possible to approach them, feed them and see their coexistence between different species. It is a nice experience, after being with the monkeys we return to the Lodge at about 4:30 pm. In the evening we will have one of our night activities.

CAIMANEO

known as caimaneo or caiman spotting where we will embark on a boat equipped with a reflector and we will go along the banks of the river in search of some caimans, thanks to the light and eyes of these caimans they are easy to locate at night, we will be able to see white caimans and dwarf caimans of regular size, 1 meter or meter and a half, with a little more luck you can see large adult caimans.
After the activity we return to the Lodge for dinner at 7:30 pm. After dinner we will be talking about the next activity for the next day.

Day 2: VISIT TO SANDOVAL LAKE AND NIGHT WALK

After breakfast we will board the boat to cross the river and reach the Sandoval Lake Control Post, since this lake is located in the Tambopata National Reserve. After check in in we will begin a walk of approximately 3 kilometers, which will take approximately 1 hour depending on your pace.

During this tour you will have the opportunity to see a great variety of flora and with luck a variety of fauna such as birds, monkeys, rodents, arachnids, insects, reptiles and amphibians.
Upon reaching the shores of the lake, you will enjoy a delicious and typical local lunch and then take a rowboat and go for a ride on the lake, with luck we will see the best attraction in Sandoval Lake “the otters”. After finishing all the lake activities we will return to the Lodge, to take a break and be ready for the night walk.

NIGHT WALK

At 6:30 p.m. We will take the flashlights to go for a walk along a forest path where you can observe nocturnal fauna.
7:30 p.m. Dinner and rest.

Day 3: VISIT TO THE NATIVE COMMUNITY.

VISIT TO THE NATIVE FAMILY 8:00 a.m. Breakfast.
A demonstration of the customs of our indigenous peoples, giving the great opportunity to have direct contact with a family of ancient warriors and hunters and to share with them their ancestral customs. We will be able to share this activity with them and learn about their paintings and art, as well as being able to help them financially with the purchase of some of their products that they themselves make.
SPORT FISHING: In the afternoon we will continue with our next activity, we will take the boat until we reach a stream where we will do rustic fishing for fish such as (catfish, maidenfish, sardines or piranha fish), after finishing the activity we return to the lodge. Dinner 7:30 after dinner we will talk about the next activity which is Parrot Collpa.

Day 4: PARROT LICK AND RETURN.

This day we will leave very early and board a boat that will take us to “La Collpa de Loros”. We will sail along the Madre de Dios River, on the way we will be able to appreciate a variety of flora and fauna, specifically a diversity of birds and a beautiful sunrise, there you will have the opportunity to observe the blue-headed parrots, auroras, parakeets and some other birds.
Then we will return to the lodge to enjoy the last breakfast and begin the return to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
The transport will take you to the airport or the bus station where the tour will end.

What to bring to the tour?

Tambopata is characterized by having a humid and warm climate typical of the Peruvian Amazon. You will find temperatures that range between 20°C (68°F) and 40°C (104°F), reaching 17°C (62°F) in the windy season which is in June and July, the rainy season takes place between December and March.
It is important that you bring light, comfortable and quick-drying clothing and footwear. Mosquito repellent, a cap, sunglasses and a flashlight.
