With Machu Picchu Sanctuary Travel, we will embark on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, a 4-day trek that is both a physical and cultural journey. Our adventure begins in Cusco, where we will gather early in the morning, buzzing with excitement and anticipation. From there, we will travel to Piskacucho Km 82, the starting point of our trek on the famous Inca Trail.
As we set foot on the trail at Km 82, we will start our hike with a gentle walk along the banks of the Urubamba River. This initial part of the trek offers us stunning views and a chance to warm up our muscles. We will pass by several small archaeological sites, where we will pause to appreciate the ancient Inca craftsmanship and learn about their historical significance.
Continuing on, we will gradually ascend through a scenic valley, surrounded by a variety of native flora and fauna. On the third day of our Classic Inca Trail 4 Days – Machu Picchu Inca Trail Hike, we will embark on a journey filled with ancient wonders and natural beauty. Starting from our campsite at Pacaymayo, we will rise early and prepare for a day rich in history and scenery.
Firstly, we will ascend to the archaeological site of Runkurakay. Here, we will explore the circular ruins and learn about their significance. Afterward, continuing our hike, we will reach the Runkurakay Pass. At an elevation of approximately 3,950 meters (12,959 feet), this pass offers stunning views of the surrounding Andean landscapes.
Next, we will descend towards the ancient site of Sayacmarca, an intriguing Inca ruin known for its unique architecture. After exploring Sayacmarca, we will proceed along the trail, which leads us through a beautiful cloud forest filled with orchids, ferns, and mosses. The path then takes us to the impressive Phuyupatamarca, or ‘Town in the Clouds’, where we will marvel at its extensive terraces and well-preserved water channels.
Finally, our day concludes as we make our way to our campsite at Wiñay Wayna. Nestled amidst lush greenery, Wiñay Wayna is another spectacular Inca site, which we will have time to explore. This will be our final night on the trail, spent in anticipation of reaching Machu Picchu the following day.

As the sun begins to rise, we will reach the Inti Punku, or Sun Gate. Here, we will pause to witness the spectacular sight of Machu Picchu bathed in the morning light, a moment that will undoubtedly take our breath away. After soaking in the views, we will descend into the citadel, where the full grandeur of this ancient wonder will unfold before us. Our guide will lead us on a comprehensive tour of Machu Picchu, sharing insights into the history and architecture of this iconic Inca site.
When you have enjoyed the magnificent Inca City, you can decide to climb Huayna Picchu mountain for a different perspective (to climb this mountain you should book the tickets in advance), or simply wander through the ruins, this time will allow us to fully immerse ourselves in the mystique of Machu Picchu. then you can use a bus ticket to get down to Aguas Calientes, a Town just below Machu Picchu.
