Note: Due to the high elevation, travel in the Peruvian highlands may cause some passengers to experience temporary effects of altitude sickness. If you have any concerns about traveling to elevations higher than you are accustomed to, please consult your healthcare provider
The Short Inca Trail is a two-day trek that covers the final stretch of the famous Inca Trail, leading to the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. This trail offers a shorter alternative to the classic four-day Inca Trail, providing a rich historical experience with stunning landscapes.
The Short Inca Trail is considered moderately challenging. While it is shorter than the Classic Inca Trail, it still involves several hours of hiking, including steep ascents and descents. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
Essential items include sturdy hiking boots, a waterproof jacket, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), a refillable water bottle, snacks, a camera, insect repellent, and personal medication. A small backpack is sufficient for carrying these items.
The best time to visit Cusco and the Sacred Valley is during the dry season, from May to November. During this period, the weather is generally clear and sunny, making it ideal for trekking and exploring the region’s archaeological sites.
To acclimatize to the altitude, it is recommended to spend a few days in Cusco before starting any strenuous activities. Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals, and take it easy during the first couple of days. Coca tea, a traditional remedy, can also help alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness.
The Sacred Valley is home to several important Inca sites, including the Pisac ruins and market, Ollantaytambo fortress, and the Moray agricultural terraces. The valley also features beautiful landscapes, traditional Andean villages, and vibrant markets.
The Short Inca Trail is the highlight of this travel package. It was perfect for visiting Machu Picchu.
