This interaction offers a personal approach into the daily lives and artistic heritage of the local weavers.
Next, our route takes us to the Moray archaeological site. We will explore the expansive circular terraces that illustrate an ancient form of Inca innovation. These terraces create a variety of microclimates.
Experts believe that they have been used by the Incas to study the effects of different climatic conditions on crops. The strategic design utilized natural elements like wind and sun to generate varying temperatures across the terraces.
The structures are a great instagrammable photo opportunity. You will have some free time along the tour to recognize and take pictures of the amazing views.
We will continue to the famous Maras salt pans, where you will see over 3,000 salt pools carved into the mountainside. Highly saline water from natural springs is channeled into these ancient ponds. Then, the water evaporates under the sun to leave behind crystalline salt—a method used since pre-Inca times.
The sight of these sunlit terraces, with their shimmering mosaic of white against the rugged landscape, is truly spectacular. Also, you will have the opportunity to buy the famous pink salt and some other souvenirs.
Our tour will conclude with a scenic drive back to Cusco, arriving around 2:30 PM. Along the way, we will reflect on the day’s discoveries and the timeless beauty of the Maras and Moray landscapes.
