Day 1: Journey from Arequipa to Chivay

We will pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM. The journey to the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest and most beautiful canyons in the world, begins promptly at 8:00 AM. Our route takes us through Pampa Cañahuas, where we will observe wild vicuñas in their natural habitat.

The next stop is Patahuasi, where we will enjoy a traditional Mate de coca, essential for preventing altitude sickness. As we ascend, we will reach the highest point of our trip at the Volcanoes’ Viewpoint. It stands at an impressive 15,748 feet above sea level (4,800 meters).

The breathtaking views here span across multiple volcanic peaks.

We will arrive in the town of Chivay around noon, where a delicious local lunch awaits. After lunch, we will check into our hotel.

The tour to Colca Canyon was excellent value for money. Every detail was taken care of, from the scenic stops along the drive to the comfort of the hot springs. The highlight for me was the early morning trip to see the condors – absolutely majestic. I would definitely recommend it.
